Gili Island

Gili Islands

Gili Islands

Arcing away from the northwest corner of Lombok, are three idyllic atolls, where the sand is still powdery white, the water a clear sparkling turquoise, and the sunsets over Bali’s Agung in the west simply spectacular.

Gili Islands are the four islands which feature superb, white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, spectacular coral reefs, and the best snorkeling and diving to be found anywhere on Bali and Lombok. Visitors from all over the world are attracted to the simple pleasures of sun, snorkeling, diving, beautiful beaches, and socializing. The absence of cars, motorcycles, and hawkers adds greatly to the leisure of staying on the Gilis, although there is now a wide range of accommodation available, the islands have maintained the lazy rustic charms of a tropical paradise.

The Gilis are noticeably drier and hotter than Lombok, but evenings can still be cool and refreshing. The rainy season is roughly from November to April, but it rains much less than on Bali. The peak tourist seasons are July-August and December-January.

Scuba Diving
There is reasonably good diving here, and the islands are globally known as a teaching centre. An impressive array of sea creatures and plant life is to be seen, such as green and hawksbill turtles, manta rays (rarely), bumphead parrotfish, black-tip and white-tip reef sharks, and more. Visibility is commonly in the 15-20m range. However, due to the exposed position of the Gilis, currents can be quite strong and drift diving is the norm.

Snorkeling
The three Gili islands are still excellent for snorkeling despite the devastation wreaked by the El Nino weather phenomenon in 1998. Some 90% of the hard corals around the islands down to 20 meters suffered badly at the time from bleaching and are still recovering.

Nothing can be as relaxing as floating amidst a beautiful coral reef watching the undersea life, join our boat crew for a short ride to one at the nearby island reefs. Giant sea turtles and schools of Indo Pacific reef fish are abundant. After snorkeling our boat crew will land you on one of the Gili’s (Indonesian for Island). The Gili Islands are famous for their white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Here you can relax, swim along the fringing reef or take a ride around the island using one of the local pony and cart. Gili Island snorkeling trips disembark from our Jetty two times per day.
